It’s that time of the year again, finally! Sunset Magazine presents its new Sunset Idea House 2016. And you can visit it!

ou could call it’s a small Christmas for all home design enthusiasts, when Sunset Magazine opens the doors to its Idea House, displaying the newest trends and innovations in architecture, landscape, design, known gardening and sustainable building. This year’s house is located in Berkley Hills – only a short drive from Sunset’s new headquarters.

“It’s only a few minutes drive from the urban hustle and bustle of our Jack London Square headquarters [in Oakland] to the Idea House’s stunning hillside location, but the experiences are so different. The area is a microcosm of what we love most about living in the West.” – Irene Edwards, Editor-in-Chief

And truly, the house is a stunning collaborative work of the Berkeley-based architect, Robert Nebolon Architects, the rising design star Lauren Geremia of Geremia Design, landscape designer Michelle Derviss, and builder Landmark Development Corporation. The team has created the ultimate North California modern house on 4,000 sq ft featuring 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, open space concept living area, family room, and 5 decks overlooking as far as eye can reach (which is all the way to the San Francisco Bay).

“We love creating more personal narratives through space and objects and plan on adding a ton of art to the house from our local vendors and friends that we’ve been collecting. Most of our fabricators live in the East Bay, so we’re excited to utilize their talent and involve a larger community that we admire.” – Lauren Geremia

We loved how the mix of modern details, artisan materials, and vintage finds gives the house a warm yet modern feel. Making us dream of evenings cozied up around the fireplace, watching the twinkling lights in the distance and enjoying local wine, delicious bites, and good company. The stuff office daydreams are made of. And starting today (Aug 19th), you can too visit the Sunset Idea House and get inspired for your next home project.
