There is no shortage of excellent, boutique hotels in LA, but we are particularly fond of Hotel Covell in Los Feliz.
T
he 5-suites micro-hotel is packed with design and luxury providing its guests with nothing but pure satisfaction. With its old-world charm meets retro vibe, Hotel Covell is more than just attractive rooms. Each chapter (that’s how the rooms are called) tells a story. The entire design concept is based on a fictional character, George Covell – a young writer from Oklahoma seeking his path in New York City.
The rooms represent chapters in Covell’s life. From his bachelor pad in Oklahoma over trips to exotic India and romantic Paris back to sophisticated New York City.

The interior designer, Sally Breer, came up with the idea and created a cohesive look taking guests on a visual journey even if they don’t necessarily know the story behind the design. The style elements range from vintage finds to contemporary pieces portraying the different decades and places.
So is Chapter 1 an homage to Covell’s young days in Oklahoma, featuring an industrial and minimalistic interior with wooden elements. Chapter 2 is set in NYC of the 50s collecting mid-century furniture and bold colors. In Chapter 3, Covell goes to Paris and finds his love, Claudine. Breer interprets this phase of Cowell’s life through soft shapes and textures of the 70s underlined with light colors. The writer’s journey leads him to Monaco and India in Chapter 4 which is layered with exotic accents and luxurious old world pieces. In the final chapter, Chapter 5, we are back in New York City, where not Covell, but his Parisian-raised daughter lives in a stylish and fresh apartment filled with modern elements and collected treasures. Now you know, why this is one of our favorite hotels in California. Hotel Covell gets extra points just for the story.
Hotel Covell feels more like that apartment you always wanted, rather than just a hotel.
The rooms are equipped with kitchenettes featuring SMEG fridges and sitting areas, so you can take off your shoes and make yourself feel at home. Maybe stay for a bit longer, follow Covell’s footsteps and write that novel you always dreamt off. Oh and did we mentioned, the bedding is from one of our favorite CA companies, Parachute.
So if you are looking for a unique stay in LA, we highly recommend adding Hotel Covell to your list. There is no better way to rest, than in a place that feels like home — just a bit more luxurious.
