The hotel, that changed the face of DTLA.
We have few favorite hotels in LA, and more are bougainvillaeing every day, but the Ace in Downtown LA will always be close to our hearts. Back in early 2014 when they opened, they breathed new life into the sketchy DTLA. Stragglers came, making DTLA a desirable real estate grounds again, and ACE became somewhat of an institution. Designed by Commune Design Studio head-to-toe (please, you must check out their book) , Ace is a one-stop-spot for a good night sleep, lunch or dinner at their in-house restaurant , L.A. Chapter, drinks and pool time at their rooftop bar and and monthly events at the restored movie theater.
★For the traveling people: Their 180 rooms are a relaxing oasis in the bustling City of Angels. Equipped with everything a good room needs ( think cloudy pillows, LP player, mini bar, TV, wifi) sleeping here or just hanging out is vacation time well spent.
★For the hungry folks: Try breakfast, lunch or dinner at L.A. Chapter. We haven’t tried lunch or dinner, but we can vouch for their breakfast to be a delightful modern brasserie experience. Granola had us at the first bite and the ricotta pancakes are great to fill up on calories you lost last night dancing.
★For party-goers and sun-adorers: High up on the roof, overlooking the LA, Poolside and Upstairs Bar, are perfect for craft cocktails, DJ tunes, sunbathing and stargazing. On a regular base they host exhibitions, yoga parties or pop-up shops.
★For the theater lovers: The Theater at Ace is a stage for some amazing new, up and coming and established performers in comedy, music, play and dance. You can check out their event calendar here.
